What does variegated mean?

The yarn is dyed in several colours along its length, here lime green and white, so the colours change on their own as you work.

What needles or hook should I use?

Porta Craft recommends 4mm needles for all its 8ply acrylic yarns. For crochet, a hook around 4 to 5mm is a common starting point for 8ply; adjust to suit your tension.

Is 8ply the same as DK?

Yes. 8ply is the Australian name for double knitting (DK) weight yarn.

Can I machine wash it?

Yes, on a warm gentle cycle. Dry it flat in the shade and don't tumble dry.
