What are Safety Eyes?
Safety eyes are plastic eyes that come with Safety washers that help give character and life to your amigurumi, and crochet stuffed toys. Safety eyes are easy to attach but difficult to remove. They come in multiple shapes, colors, and sizes. At Discount Craft we measure these in millimeters, which will represent the diameter of the eye.
Safety eyes are NOT safe for children younger than 4 years old, or pets. If you don’t want to use safety eyes, simply embroider them on instead.
How to use Safety Eyes?
- Porta Craft brand Safety Eyes come with both an eye and a washer per eye.
- Ensure the "right side" of the piece is facing towards you, then insert the eye between two stiches.
- On the inside of the piece, put the backing on the stem with the flat side facing the yarn.
- Push down on both sides of the backing to snap the eye into place. Push it far enough so it feels very secure, but not to far that it distorts the piece.
- Repeat these steps for the other eye, count how many stitches away the second eye should be by counting the number of gaps that represent the space between stitches.
